2017年6月21日更新Wine Specialty Shop in Germany

Every once in a while I have an opportunity to go to Germany on business. Despite the uncomfortable long-flight back and forth I have a few things to look forward to. One is having nice conversations while having meals in local restaurants with my colleagues, with whom I usually communicate only via email and chat. My other favorite activity there is wine-tasting at a local wine shop to select my souvenirs.

Actually, I did not inform my colleague who takes me to my favorite wine shop that I was coming to Germany because I had known that she would be busy. However, coincidentally, she participated in the training I was in. It was a pleasant surprise for both of us! So she was kind enough to drive me there one afternoon. How lucky I was!

The name of the shop is weinwork8. Even the name shows the owner’s dedication to wine. The shop is located at the gate of Esslingen, near a shopping area. The owner of the shop Mr. Stefan Jauch and his female partner look after the shop. Inside the spacious shop are numerous wines mainly from Europe and some from South Africa.

The owner’s philosophy is to offer products and services that suit the preference of individual customers. You can see this is reflected in every aspect of the shop. On the day I visited, I didn’t see the owner and his partner helped me.

What is special about this shop is the wine-tasting experience of the recommended wine. All you have to do is tell the owner (or his partner) your preference and budget. This time I requested recommendation of dry and reasonable wines both red and white. She did just that.

Esslingen has an ideal weather for wine so there are many local wineries. First the lady of the shop poured me a white wine. It was made by the owner of weinwork8 and a local winery together. On the day of my visit the temperature was as high as 28 degrees, which was unusual for Germany at this time of the year. The nice and cold white wine tasted wonderful to me. One sip from the glass made me feel fantastic with a fresh acid taste. What a clean taste! I really liked the fresh and pure after-taste. I tried other wines also, but I ended up choosing this collaboration wine of weinwork8.

As for the red wine, I also requested dry taste. One from the neighboring country Austria and two from Italy were offered for tasting. The Italian wines were rather heavy and perfect for a meat dish. I preferred the lighter texture of the Austrian for the warm season coming up. So I selected that.

I was lucky to have my colleague with me who is also a skilled photographer: she took pictures of the shop on my behalf. She used my iPhone, but you can see the difference in technique. (It is a pity I cannot upload her panorama picture due to the system’s limitation of data size.) It is a pity our readers cannot try out the wine. I hope you can get the feel of it at least. And if you ever have a chance to visit Esslingen, you should have a tasting experience at the shop. The friendly owner will surely recommend perfect wine for you.
